New Englands most recognized female broadcast journalist comes to The Hanover Theatre

WORCESTER, MA _ Female Leadership Interest Council (FLIC) announced today that one of the most familiar faces in the New England Broadcast Media, Liz Walker, an award-winning news anchor and host of the acclaimed “Sunday’s with Liz” on WBZ-TV will be taking center stage at FLIC’s, “An Evening with Liz Walker,” on Thursday, Oct. 30 at The Hanover Theatre in Worcester, beginning at 6PM.

Liz Walker is a name synonymous with WBZ-TV, having anchored the station’s evening newscast for 20 years, before moving to the daytime shift in 2000 to spend more time with her family. Walker began her career in broadcast journalism in 1974, in her hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas where she was the director of Public Affairs for KA-TV. Later she moved to KMGH-TV in Denver, Colorado, where she was the weekend anchor and reporter. Prior to joining WBZ-TV, Walker worked for KRON-TV in San Francisco, California as an early morning anchor and reporter, as well as the host of the daily magazine program, “Midday.”

“Liz joined us for our Inaugural event with Gloria Steinem where nearly 400 people from the region gathered to celebrate the launch of our organization. Everyone enjoyed Liz’s opening remarks so much, they asked us to bring her back so they could hear her story and learn about her professional and life journey,” said Deborah Penta, FLIC founder.

In 2001, Walker traveled to war-torn Sudan where she became ensconced in the humanitarian crisis and slave-trading going on in that country. Since that first trip, she has returned twice, most recently visiting Darfur, where 250,000 people have been killed, and 1.8 million displaced. Through her 501 c3 non-profit organization, Liz Walker Journey Productions, Walker and her colleagues have created a documentary film, as well as educational coaching tools to promote community conversations, involvement and healing to help end rape and genocide in Sudan.

“Girlfriends are created in that instant when one woman tells another, ‘What, you too? Thought I was the only one.’ Knowing that we are not alone gives us comfort. Building our relationships into community gives us power,” Walker said. “I am thrilled to be able to share time and experiences with the women of FLIC!”

Along with Walker, Maya Balle, a Master Certified Coach and workshop leader, and co-founder of Liz Walker Journey Productions, will share some powerful stories about the passionate people who are changing the world. Balle has been spotlighted in the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, the Boston Business Journal, Inc. Magazine and Oprah’s O Magazine. Additionally, she has been a guest on many radio and television shows, and a speaker and coach to corporations, universities, hospitals, educational conferences and professional associations. Balle currently serves on the International Coach Federation board.

“Liz and Maya are exceptional individuals and accomplished professionals who believe in the power of collaboration and the importance of developing and expanding our worlds,” said Penta.

“We are all in the midst of change. When we take a breath, look to our left and look to our right, the women of our circle are standing there cheering us on, holding our hand or quietly smiling with pride. They are our community of council cheering us on,” Balle said. “How perfect to grow our circle with FLIC! We all have a chance to give our gifts and skills to make this a better world.”

“FLIC is grateful to have the support of Liz and Maya and we are truly thrilled that they are helping us with our mission to develop leadership, mentoring and opportunities for women to pay it forward,” Penta said. “We have no doubt that they will inspire everyone at the event to take a look at their own journey – celebrate both their successes and those tiny moments in life that shine light to guide us in our journeys.”

“An Evening with Liz Walker,” will open with a Conversation with Liz followed by a complete showing of the documentary, “A Glory from the God,” and compelling dialogue with both Walker and Balle.
